ISCG in the D
We had the pleasure of being tourists in our own city on a little field trip to Detroit this past Wednesday, August 22nd. Team building is an essential part of ISCG’s culture, which is why we take time out of our busy schedules to enjoy non-work-related activities on a regular basis. There are numerous benefits to organizing team building activities including: increased employee engagement, encourage communication between employees, allow them to learn about each other on another level, build trust and camaraderie, which will overall increase the employees’ ability to work effectively together. Employee engagement is a critical part of attraction and retention, as explained below in the infographic provided by Officevibe. If you are interested in seeing some other team building ideas check out Morgan McDonald’s blog on Team Building Ideas to Bring Employees Together.
This outing was different than others we’ve had, in sense that there was not any structure on what we were going to do other than set transportation times. We organized transportation from our office in Royal Oak to Downtown and the return trip, through Gen-X Limo (highly recommended!). The afternoon was yours to do what you wanted in the city. Many of us enjoyed having the flexibility to shape the afternoon to what we wanted based on our own interests.
Here are some of the things we did:
- Relaxed in Capital Park
- Browsed The Woodward Collective
- Walked around to explore the city
- Drank a cold brew from The Roasting Plant
- Shopped the pop-up shops and the retail stores on Woodward
- Photographed cityscapes and Detroit life
- Had a cocktail at The Fountain and beach area in Campus Martius
- Visited the Guardian building
- Enjoyed a craft beer at Grand Trunk Pub
