Disaster Relief: How You Can Help
The United States and surrounding areas have been inundated with natural disasters recently including Texas, Florida, the Pacific-Northwest and the Caribbean. Many of you may want to help, but being thousands of miles away makes physically helping nearly impossible. We've researched reputable organizations that will put your hard earned donations to good use.
American Red Cross
During a disaster the American Red Cross provides shelter, food and medical services to those in need. They are collecting monetary donations as well as urging individuals to donate blood. You can donate online at www.redcross.org, call 1.800.RED CROSS or text HARVEY or IRMA to 90999 to make a $10 donation. You can find a location to donate blood here.
The Salvation Army is assisting during Hurricanes Harvey and Irma at their local shelters/community centers. Donations are also being used to supply their food trucks and assist with manpower when needed. You can donate to the Salvation Army here.
Our furry friends may need help too! The ASPCA is utilizing funds to provide staff, volunteers and supplies to animals and their families taking shelter all over the country. You can find more information and donate here.
The United Way is an organization that helps communities in a multitude of ways, including providing disaster services and volunteers for shelters. You can donate in a variety of ways including with stock and bitcoins here.
Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity is an organization that helps build or re-build homes for those in need. You can donate to them here.
