More Podcasts to Make The Most Of Your Commute

Updated: 08/08/18

Metro Detroit has some of the worst traffic in the country, so much that it’s in the top 25 Most Congested Cities by Inrix! Unfortunately, it’s going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better with the planned closure of major throughway I-696 this spring. The construction of I-696 is not even halfway through and in addition we are still dealing with construction over the entire regional area; wreaking havoc on morning and evening communtes. Morning radio can get tiring, so why not make the most of your commute by listening to inspiring and interesting podcasts that will give your workday a boost. Here are some of our favorites.

The 5AM Miracle: If you’re trying to dominate your day, the 5AM Miracle is for you. Created by The Formula Free Time author Jeff Sanders, this podcast focuses on healthy habits, personal development and of course early mornings. One must-listen episode features Broadway actress Stephanie Gibson where she discusses how she manages to do anything in addition to eight shows a week!

The Tim Ferriss Show: Tim is the author of the famed book ‘The 4-Hour Workweek’. Tim interviews interesting people and discusses the ways that they have overcome challenges. A favorite of mine is when he interviews Sir Richard Branson, Vince Vaughn, Maria Sharapova and Caroline Paul about ways they have overcome fear.

Back to Work: Hosted by creators Merlin Mann and Dan Benjamin, this podcast focuses on productivity and communication. They often do a deeper dive on topics versus just quick solutions to provide an in-depth understanding. While the topics can get serious this duo serves up enough hilarity to keep you entertained your whole drive. A favorite episode, titled ‘Dumb Ohio Mouth’ digresses into how to handle negative workplace chatter.

The Productivitist Podcast: Hosted by productivity strategist Mike Vardy, this podcast specifically focuses on productivity strategies and workflow to help you get more out of your day. This would be a great place to start if you are struggling giving your 2018 goals momentum.

Worklife with Adam Grant: Hosted by, you guessed it - Adam Grant - these short dives into workplace culture and behavior will get your wheels turning. Worklife is a TED Original Podcast and Grant is actually a social scientist. Even the commercials are interesting as Grant personally selected the advertisers based on their work culture.

Masters of Scale: Host Reid Hoffman, creator of LinkedIn (Yes- the LinkedIn) interviews interesting founders and creators across various industries in these short 20-30 minute podcasts. They are the right amount of content in a short amount of time, perfect for short commutes or even lunch breaks.

ZigZag: Hosts Manoush and Jen were just normal women with dreams of starting their own media company. They decided to stop dreaming and start living and document their transition to entrepreneurship in their own podcast. This is an essential podcast for every #girlboss or aspiring business owner needing a little motivation.

This American Life:  This extremely popular podcast is great if you love having conversation starters. Each week, host Ira Glass examines a different topic in the one hour podcast. and then builds stories based on the topic. Each week is something different for example: this past week is Crime Scenes, and the previous week was Magic Shows so you're guaranteed to never get bored.
